Sweden – the World’s most renewable country!
Sweden is currently ranked the number one country in the world for renewable energy generation with 51% of Sweden’s annual energy generation coming from renewable energy – over third of which comes from carbon-neutral renewable biomass sources.
In 1970 at the beginning of the Swedish oil crisis, oil accounted for 77% of Swedish energy. In 2005, Sweden passed a National Climate Policy in Global Co-operation Bill seeking to eliminate all oil imports by 2020. By 2014, energy generation from oil had fallen to 27%, with 34.3% of total energy generation came from bioenergy with a further 14.1% coming from hydro and 2.6% of generation coming from wind.
Sweden is now on pursuit to become the first completely oil-free economy in the world by 2020.
